F - The Development of Anna's character:
When we speak about the development of An¬na's character, we speak about the change of her position and of her attitude to life. She develops through her personal experiences which she goes through. Anna, at the end of the novel, is no lon¬ger the same Anna at the beginning of the novel. She is no longer the girl who remains at home,. the beautiful young lady who is obedient to her miserly father who always insults her and mist¬reats her. She is no longer the girl who stays at home awaiting a man to marry her no matter she loves him or not. At the end she is not contented with one dress. She begins to have her own opi¬nion in everything she faces. She goes on picnics
and she has good food. She challenges her father, Plenry and even her community to some extent. She declares her love to Willie Price and stands beside him, assists him and gives him money in or¬der to leave that community which is going to hang him for a crime he did not commit. She chal¬lenges her community for not declaring her faith in Christianity. Her humanity and her real opinion come to the surface when the pressure of her fa-ther and her society becomes too great upon her, when she can hear no more. In that case she gives her opinion openly without any fear. Yet, in the end, she conforms with the conventions of her so¬ciety because her struggle is fruitless for she is alo¬ne in a forest full of human beasts.
